Optical Coherence Tomography in Ocular Disease
(2 hours, optional exam available; Category: Systemic/Ocular Disease) On a daily basis, optometric physicians are faced with the responsibility of making decisions in the management of their patients who have diseases of the anterior segment, vitreous/retina, macula, and optic nerve. This course provides a comprehensive review of optical coherence tomography (OCT) using case examples to illustrate the clinical applications of OCT in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various ocular diseases.
The Eye in Obesity
(2 hours; Category: Systemic/Ocular Disease) The prevalence of obesity has reached epidemic proportions in many countries. Although its impact on overall health is well documented, less is known about the ocular manifestations of obesity. Among other eye diseases, obesity has been linked with cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. This course provides a review of ocular and systemic manifestations of obesity. It discusses methods for optometrists to educate and encourage their patients.
